DuPage County is full of comfortable suburban homes where an older adult can go days without a real conversation. Senior companion services DuPage County families arrange through Guided with Grace change that: a screened, friendly caregiver who visits regularly to talk, share meals, run errands and take your parent out into the community they have lived in for decades.
Companion care is social support with practical benefits. There is no medical checklist; the visit is shaped around your parent’s personality, interests and the errands that keep a household running. Our companion care service is the most flexible thing we offer.
Companionship for elderly parents is often the first service a family tries, and it frequently reveals what else would help. If a companion notices Dad avoiding the shower, we add personal care with the same caregiver. If Mom’s memory is slipping, our Alzheimer’s care in DuPage County builds companionship into a more structured routine.
Loneliness is a health risk, not just a feeling. It is linked to depression, poor nutrition, higher blood pressure and faster memory decline. Regular companionship is preventive care, and when an adult child is the only visitor, it also doubles as respite.
After the funeral, the visits taper off and the quiet sets in. A companion restores routine and conversation.
In a county built around the car, losing the keys can mean losing church, friends and independence overnight.
If you are managing from another state, a companion is your reliable presence in the house and an honest source of updates.
Conversation, routine and engagement keep the mind active and let a familiar person notice changes early.
Good companion care gets your parent out of the house, and DuPage County offers plenty of places to go. Our companions drive, escort and stay as needed.
Most DuPage municipalities and townships run senior programming: the Naperville Park District’s Active Adults and Seniors program at the Alfred Rubin Riverwalk Community Center is one example, and Wheaton, Downers Grove Township and other communities publish their own senior services calendars. The DuPage Senior Citizens Council hosts community dining sites across the county and offers friendly visits and well-being checks, which pair well with more frequent professional companion care. AgeGuide, the county’s Area Agency on Aging, supports community dining and friendly-visit programs regionally.
For transportation on days a companion is not scheduled, Ride DuPage provides subsidized curb-to-curb rides for residents 65 and older. DuPage County Community Services, reachable at 630-407-6500, offers referrals for residents 60 and older across everything from adult day services to volunteer opportunities, and 211 DuPage is available 24/7.
Companions also handle the ordinary geography of the county: a prescription pickup after an appointment at Central DuPage Hospital or Good Samaritan, groceries, a haircut, a visit to a friend in the next town. Learn more about our team.
In companion care the relationship is the service, so matching is everything. Every Guided with Grace caregiver is screened, background checked and trained, and we are a licensed and insured non-medical home care agency in Illinois.
We match on interests, temperament, energy and language, not just availability. A retired engineer who wants to argue about the Bears needs a different companion from a former teacher who wants help organizing fifty years of photographs. We keep the same companion in place for as long as it works, and we change it if it does not. See our FAQ page.
Companion care is the easiest service to start and the easiest to adjust as your parent’s needs change.

We meet at home, learn routines and interests, and note any safety concerns.

Care can often begin within a few days. We introduce the companion in person so the first visit feels like meeting a friend.

Companion care combines naturally with these services across the county.

The council’s friendly visits and well-being checks are valuable volunteer services with limited hours. Our companions are professional, trained caregivers who can visit as often as you need, drive, run errands and step into more hands-on care if it becomes necessary. Many families use both.
Yes. Escorts to community programs, worship and family events are a normal part of the service. The companion can stay for the program or return to pick him up, whichever suits him.
We never present it that way. We introduce the caregiver as help with errands, a project or a weekly outing, and let the relationship grow. Most reluctant clients look forward to the visits within a few weeks.
As few or as many as you like, from a couple of visits a week to daily. We offer part-time, full-time and customized schedules with a minimum number of hours per shift.
Companion visits focus on social and practical support, but caregivers can prompt medications and help with light tasks. If bathing or dressing help becomes necessary, we add personal care to the plan, usually with the same caregiver.
