Every afternoon your mother drives to the nursing home to sit with your father, and every evening she comes back to a house that has been silent since 1962 except for him. She is not sick and she is not frail; she is alone in a way she has never been. Senior companion services Oswego IL families arrange through Guided with Grace are for the well spouse: someone in the house for the evenings, the errands and the drive to visit him, so the loneliness does not become the next illness.
Our companion care is time, company and a car, arranged around the shape of your parent’s week rather than a fixed menu. For a spouse whose days revolve around visiting hours, that shape is very particular.
Companionship is often the only service such a client needs for years. If her own health changes, personal care can be added to the same visits, and if her husband comes home, our 24-hour home care can help with that too.
Loneliness in Oswego has a particular geography: quiet subdivisions on weekdays, long distances to the children, and a lot of older couples where one partner is now caring for, or visiting, the other.
Her husband is in care or in the hospital and the house is suddenly enormous. A companion fills the evenings and drives her to him.
He looks after his wife with dementia all day and has not had an adult conversation in a month. A companion for both of them changes that.
The kids call on Sundays. A companion on Tuesdays and Thursdays means somebody actually sees her.
Oswego is not a walking town. Losing the car means losing the store, the church and the friends unless someone drives.
A companion needs destinations, and Oswego and Kendall County provide them.
The Oswego Senior & Community Center at 3525 US Highway 34 (630-554-5602) offers congregate meals, exercise classes, health screenings and caregiver support for older adults across Kendall County, and a companion can take your parent there and stay for the program. Senior Services Associates, which serves Kendall County from offices in Aurora and Yorkville, runs a volunteer Senior Companion program for eligible residents over 60 as well as information and referral services; we are glad to see a client use both.
Kendall Area Transit (1-877-IGO-4KAT) provides dial-a-ride Monday through Friday from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. for registered riders, with a $1 discount for passengers 60 and older, which covers the days a companion is not scheduled. The Kendall County Health Department in Yorkville (630-553-9100) runs a Caregiver Counseling Center for spouses caring for a partner, and AgeGuide’s Family Caregiver Support Program (1-800-528-2000) offers respite and counseling to Kendall County caregivers. For a spouse visiting a partner in the hospital, Rush Copley Medical Center is on Ogden Avenue in Aurora.
We provide companion visits in Oswego, Montgomery and Boulder Hill. Learn more about Guided with Grace.
A companion for a woman whose husband is in care needs tact as much as warmth: she will want to talk about him some days and about anything else on others. We match on temperament, interests and pace before we look at the calendar. Every companion is screened, background checked and trained before placement, and Guided with Grace is a licensed and insured non-medical home care agency in Illinois.
The same companion comes each visit wherever the schedule allows, because the point is a relationship, not a service call. More on the FAQ page.
Nothing here commits you to the long term.
Call (630) 608-3956 or use the contact page: the visiting hours, the empty evenings, what she used to enjoy.
We meet your parent, listen to how she is coping and hear what she would like help with.

Yes. Companion care is for wellbeing, not illness. A companion who drives her to visit him, cooks dinner and stays for the evening takes the strain off the days and gives her someone of her own to talk to.
Yes. The companion can wait, come in with her or run her errands during the visit, whichever she prefers.
The volunteer program is free and worthwhile for residents who qualify, and we suggest applying. Our service is paid and scheduled: a screened professional who drives, cooks, runs the errands and keeps the family informed.
Visits are subject to our minimum hours per visit; most companion visits fill an afternoon or an evening comfortably.
Yes. For a spouse who visits during the day, the evenings are the hard part, and we schedule for them.
