A companion visit that is just ‘company’ tends to fizzle: two people in a living room running out of things to say. The visits that last have a shape. Monday is errands and the pharmacy; Wednesday is lunch at the senior center; Friday is the river path, or the barber, or the cemetery. Companion care for seniors Kane County families arrange with Guided with Grace is built that way, as a weekly program with a purpose to each visit, so your parent has something to look forward to rather than something to sit through.
Our companion care gives each visit a job. The companion brings the car, the time and the second pair of hands; your parent’s week supplies the structure. A typical program in Kane County might look like this.
A program like this is often the first service a family tries and the one they keep longest. If hands-on needs arrive, personal care can be added to the same visits, and if memory becomes the concern our dementia-trained caregivers keep the program going.
Isolation has a different face in each part of the county, but the answer is the same: a person, a car and a plan.
Once the driving and the friends go, the days blur together. A program gives Monday a reason to be different from Tuesday.
In Aurora and Elgin especially, we match on language where we honestly can, because company in a second language is only half company.
She visits him every day in Geneva and comes home to an empty house. A companion drives her there and fills the evenings.
You are on the 7:05 from Geneva and home at seven. Two afternoons with a companion mean somebody sees your father.
A program needs destinations, and Kane County is full of them.
In Aurora, the Fox Valley Park District’s Active Adults program runs at the Prisco and Eola community centers, with a Friendly Center Club on Thursdays and bus trips, and Aurora Township offers luncheons and classes at its community center. In Elgin, Senior Services Associates hosts Thursday activities at the Centre of Elgin on Symphony Way, and Elgin Township’s Senior Access Pass makes its memberships free to township seniors. In the Tri-Cities, the St. Charles Park District’s Adult Activity Center offers lunches with entertainment, guided walks and trips; the Geneva Township Senior Center on Wheeler Drive has a large social hall; and the Batavia Park District’s senior club meets for luncheons at the Eastside Community Center, with drop-in coffee and cards on Monday mornings. A companion can get your parent to any of them and stay.
For the days a companion is not scheduled, Ride in Kane provides curb-to-curb rides for residents 65 and older around the clock, coordinated countywide since January 2026 through (630) 762-2600, and Senior Services Associates runs a volunteer Senior Companion program for eligible residents that many of our clients use as well. AgeGuide’s Family Caregiver Support Program (1-800-528-2000) supports the relative who has been doing the visiting until now.
Guided with Grace provides companion visits along the whole Fox Valley from our Naperville office. Learn more about the agency.
A companion who can run a weekly program needs to be organized as well as warm, so we match on temperament, interests, language and reliability before we look at the calendar, and we organize our companions by area so the same person keeps coming to Batavia or South Elgin. Every companion is screened, background checked and trained before placement, and Guided with Grace is a licensed and insured non-medical home care agency in Illinois.
If the match is not right, we change it without fuss. The FAQ page has more on how visits work.
No long-term commitment, and the program starts small.

A relaxed meeting at home to hear what a good week would look like to them.
One or two visits a week to start, each with a purpose, subject to our minimum hours per visit.

Our companions cover the whole Fox Valley. These are the communities we visit most often; call to confirm coverage elsewhere in the county.
A companion program combines easily with the rest of what we do.
Our companions also visit DuPage, Will and Kendall counties.
Not the way we run it. Each visit has a purpose: errands, the senior center, an appointment, an outing. Men who refuse ‘company’ often accept ‘someone to drive me to the barber and the bank’, and the company follows.
Yes. Staying is part of the program; a companion who sits through the Friendly Center Club and talks about it on the way home is how a visit becomes a habit.
The volunteer program run through Senior Services Associates is a valuable free service for eligible residents and we encourage it. Ours is a paid, scheduled service with a screened professional who drives, cooks, runs errands and reports to the family.
Companion visits are non-medical and hands-off by design. If your parent later needs help bathing or dressing, we add personal care to the same visits.
Yes. Outing days can become home days and back again. The plan is reviewed with the family, and the companion adjusts week to week.
